Supporting Veterans

My Position

When I first ran for State Representative, I promised to do everything in my power to advocate for and serve our veterans. I remain committed to that promise today. Our veterans have sacrificed for our country, and they deserve the support, resources, and opportunities they need to successfully transition back into civilian life and thrive in our communities.

What I’ve Accomplished

I have sponsored and voted for legislation that provides veterans with greater access to state services, financial relief, and benefits they have earned through their service.

  • HB 0359: Creates a Veterans’ Accountability Unit to receive complaints and help ensure that state services for veterans are being properly administered and distributed.

  • HB 3150: Allows honorably discharged veterans who are sole proprietors of a business or service to be exempt from certain county and municipal licensing fees, reducing barriers for veterans pursuing entrepreneurship.

  • HB 4043: Allows veterans with a 100% service-connected disability to receive their veterans’ disability homestead exemption without having to reapply each year.

  • HB 2506: Provides veterans with qualifying disabilities the ability to obtain a military registration plate without paying the standard registration fee.

  • HB 5385: Amends the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Act to require the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to contract with a nonprofit organization to serve as the State’s principal assistance organization for the U.S. Department of Defense’s SkillBridge program, connecting employers with transitioning service members and helping veterans successfully enter the civilian workforce.

My commitment to our veterans extends beyond legislation. For the past three years, I have hosted an annual Veterans Day Breakfast, bringing veterans from across our community together for a morning of camaraderie and fellowship while giving us an opportunity to thank them for their service and sacrifice.

Future Plans

I pledge to continue using my position as State Representative to advocate for veterans in our community, and to find ways to make sure they have access to necessary resources.
